Website problems

Sorry for being off-topic here, but the reason will become clear.

It is presently impossible to delete an observation from the AID. The “new webobs” never supported this operation and the function has apparently been removed from classic webobs.

I tried to report this problem under the “Technical support” forum of the “General” forum category, but that page refuses to let me create a new topic.

Hi Tom,
I can still delete observations with the new tool:
https://apps.aavso.org/webobs/search/
I just tried without deleting the content though, but it offered me to delete the selected stars photometry.

Regards,
Josch

Hi Tom,

We haven’t removed or de-activated any features in the old WebObs or WebObs Search applications. WebObs Search had the ability to delete data.

The new Photometry Search application has a “My Observations” tab that lists your data. It should also allow you to edit or delete observations up to a certain point in time.

Kind regards,
Brian

It looks like this is a different manifestation of another problem I have seen, in which I found myself getting redirected to a page other than the one I selected.

A bit of background: I value online privacy so I clean out my cookies almost every day. Consequently I am frequently logging in “afresh” to aavso.org. In the past I found that if I tried to navigate to “Find a member/observer” after logging in I got sent to the AVSpec web page. Subsequent navigation attempts got me to the right place. [I just tried that experiment now and got “Oops! Looks like something went wrong on this page…”]

I just tried “old” WebObs search after a fresh login. Two screenshots follow. The first shows my query (when logged in). The second shows the results. All observations are mine but there are no edit or delete options.

I think we have some kind of user validation problem at session start-up, which would also explain why I couldn’t start a thread in the Technical Support category.

I have seen some other odd behavior (eg: repeatedly redrawn screens) after a fresh login.
