Website Development Team and Projects

I see, and have generated, a number of forum posts on possible issues with the AAVSO website. I think it would help me to have a better understanding of the people and projects involved with the development and maintenance of the website. Perhaps if I had been able to attend the annual meeting, I would have that understanding, but personal issues came up.

Would someone please provide a post introducing the team? Could there be a forum “thread” that is regularly updated with when work on the website is going to be done? Maybe it is in there somewhere, but I find the new forums a bit confusing to navigate and search.

I understand how hard software development is. I think if I understood more I would not get frustrated when things do not work quite right.

Hi Cliff,

My name is Aru, and I’m the software developer at the AAVSO. The primary work recently has been the data submit/search applications, with updates shared in the feedback thread. The outage today is unrelated to these, however.

I like your idea and have created a thread in which we’ll be more transparent about our development efforts. Please let us know if you have any other requests.

Pleased to “meet” you Aru. I do some volunteer software work for AAVSOnet. While doing some work on that I experienced the APASS timeouts. I see our executive developer has posted about some things he found that likely addresses that concern.
