As Dr. Maxteed mentioned in his webinar, his list of prospective objects has not yet been made public. He will likely release this information in the form of an Observing Campaign when ready.
Brian - thank you so much for that link to the Campaigns listing.
I’ve been looking for a single place where are the Alerts and Campaigns could easily be found. Also trying to find in the new system how to subscribe to forums, campaigns and alerts. It always seemed unnecessarily hard to figure that out in the old system but I eventually managed to stumble around the website and come across what I needed. No luck with the new system until your link today so - many thanks!
Gary
On the left side menu system find Categories, click that if it isn’t already expanded and you should find “Observing” and if you click that the main window to the right will have all the sub-categories of which there are Campaigns and Alerts. Click either word and a list will appear related to each main topic.
Somehow, some months ago now, I was able to sign up for the T CrB campaign forum thread. Don’t remember how I did it now. I don’t think I have ever gotten an email alert from the new system in my home email but do get rare emails of forum posts.
Bottom line–I have just gotten into the habit of coming here to the forum and checking for new messages/posts before going out to observe with my portable setup.
Perhaps someone at HQ can explain in detail how to sign up for alerts to come to your home email or text or if it is even possible on the new system?
Campaign #829 is missing from the list of Campaigns and its hard to find the list of Campaigns itself - why no link?
There should be at least one prominent link possibly in the left hand website margin ‘Categories’ and after the ‘Observing’ Category. Its rather frustrating not being able to easily find and subscribe to Alerts and Campaigns. These are, in many ways, the ‘heartbeat’ of activity of many/most of our members.
Brian, in the webinar, Dr. Maxteed mentioned some observations that seem to come from AAVSO.net .
My impression on AAVSO.net is that generally it is not suitable for eclipsing binary observations (hard to allocate hours of observation time a night just for 1 target). Has the policy been changed?
The time series policy on AAVSONet is not absolute! However, we do consider such proposals carefully since they can obviously impact/limit our more common snapshot imaging proposals.
Any time series proposal needs to be carefully defended and not request large numbers of separate time series since that would be unfair to all our other proposers/members on this shared resource!
Actually, I believe it is just starting and we are awaiting a target listing. I may be confusing it with something else as I find the organization of this web interface to be confusing. It can also be difficult to find topics, alerts, campaigns that you once thought you’d seen. Having a simple and prominent link to all the Campaigns and Alerts would really help. By this I mean theformat that is in a simple list format and includes the name of the PI/Sponsor of the Campaign.
We have a new app with all of our observing campaigns which allows you to search by PI, object name, and other things. All of the campaigns for the last ~6 months (or so) also link to their respective forums.
Unfortunately, the Observing Campaign page is some 5 pages deep on our current website. This is an unfortunate artifact of having 60,000 webpages and competing interests in terms of what is the utmost priority. It is probably best to bookmark it for now.
When we relaunch our website later this year, there will be a link in the top-level navigation menu.
