Nova in Sgr - TCP J18022164-3310319

A galactic nova in Sgr has been discovered and confirmed spectroscopically: TCP J18022164-3310319, coordinates (2000) RA 18 02 21.64 Dec -33 10 31.9. Discovered independently on 2025 March 24 by the NMT survey team and on March 23 by Tadashi Kojima (dates are correct). At 11.02V on March 24.8337 UT (K. Yoshimoto), appears still to be rising. It has been submitted to VSX and an AAVSO sequence has been requested. More information will be included in an AAVSO Alert Notice.

Observations of this nova are requested in all bands. Finder charts with comparison stars may be created using the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP, Variable Star Plotter). There is a 14.1 star extremely close to the position of the nova; the ‘F’ scale chart clearly shows the relative positions.
