Data mining with a Galaxy * tablet?

Can a Galaxy 8A tablet be used for data mining? I can’t get a Java 1.8 download for it. I can get AID and other data bases but vstar itself I cannot access.

Hi Richard,
I’m not sure if anyone understands what you’re asking.
Are you are talking about a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8? That’s a pretty low end Android 11 device if I recall correctly.
What do you mean by “data mining” ?
Usually when I hear that term, it’s done on large fast servers with a low-latency connection to databases.
What do you have in mind?
Cheers
Colin

I think you answered my question. I need to get a laptop at least to be able to have java 1.8 and access vstar.
Our nightsky is so light polluted that I can only see a very few stars even with my bioculars.
I have a Seestar50 w/o any accessories.
So right now the best I can do is the zooniverse on various binaries.

I suggest that your SS50 will be able to good work in your location. Give it a try!

OK, so you won’t be doing precision photometry on sub-13th magnitude stars but that still leaves many thousands of other variables within your grasp.

FWIW, where I am here now near Cambridge (UK, not MA) the sky is badly polluted but my vanilla SS50 images star fields remarkably well. Just remember to save each individual sub and process them afterwards with your favo{,u}rite software.

Good luck and feel free to ask for more advice if you need it, or even if you only feel like it.
