When the APASS DR10 download webpage silently returns nothing (eg. RA 269.56, DEC +54.87, radius 0.5) should I conclude that my request falls in the 1% of the sky not covered by APASS 10 or has the web app malfunctioned?
Cliff,
It appears that the script isn’t parsing decimal degrees correctly for some reason. I’ll have the Staff investigate. In the meantime, sexagesimal (4:29:33, 54:52:12) works as expected.
Brian
Actually I believe Brian’s conversion is incorrect. There does appear to be a hole there using the actual sexagisimal coordinetes:
RA: 17:58:14.4
DEC: 54:52:12
Apologies for the confusion.
I was about to ask about the RA.
Bert, what do you mean by hole? Are you saying there is not APASS 10 data there and there is no programmatic response to say that?
Bert is correct. The online sexagesimal tool I used online messed up the conversion. Sorry about the confusion.
Hey Cliff,
I mean that area has no data in APASS DR10 specifically, and as such returns no results. I believe this is part of the area that Arne refers to as the “Northern Polar Cap” which is missing for DR10. There is likely data in this region in DR9 which you can access through Vizier. For more specifics on this Arne will need to answer.
I think a useful enhancement would be a response that alerts the user to this situation rather than a blank screen.
