Spectroscopic support needed

Some friends are looking for someone able to provide a spectroscopic confirmation of a potential binary star, first indicated by an asteroid occultation observation. If you wouldn’t mind adding an 11.2-mag. star to your observing list, please contact me at space@manitobamuseum.ca.

Could be that the data already exist, specifically from the GAIA3 rv’s or actual resolution of the pair if they are not too close. There are other surveys that could have spectra and rv’s as well (LAMOST, RAVE, etc). I suggest doing a look-up in VizieR to what might be available.

Scott,

I would suggest submitting an observing campaign for the star. At V~11.2, it might be a bit faint for most observers with spectrographs (see tables listed here); however, we can reach out to a few folks with larger telescopes and higher resolution instruments to see if they are willing to help.

Regards,
Brian
