If I want to use a monochrome camera with no photometric filter to try to get decent SNR on very faint variables (to report as CV) should I use an IR cut filter? Or does it not really matter?

Indeed, long R-IR tail of sensors helps to detect the faintest targets. In my specifiс case unfiltered points are close to R, so I mark them as CR. Points with UV-IR cut filter placed between V and R, so I do not use this filter for photometry.
In any case CR is not standard band, but even such images may be useful sometimes.
