RS Cap mysteriously bright in serendipitous images

Two nights ago, a time series of 10 x 60 sec test images was taken of a ‘random’ field which serendipitously included RS Cap. VSX lists it as an SRB variable with a period of 340 d and a mag range of 7.8 (0.46) V.

Hi Roy,

If you are using a RGB bayer array camera without a UV/IR block filter, there is a good chance that you may be getting contaminated photometry from the IR leak that is common in these devices. Could you provide us with some additional details of your setup?

Brian

Hi Brian,

Not sure where I was headed with the post mentioning RS Cap. Looks like it is incomplete. Can’t recall what the situation was.

I don’t have an RGB camera with no UV/IR block. Not sure where that suggestion came from.

Roy

Roy,

Sounds good. I’ll close this topic then.
