Observing Southern Eclipsing Binaries

I am observing Southern Eclipsing Binaries which are close to the South Celestial Pole. I have hundreds of observations and light curve plots arising from the observations. I use MPO Canopus version 12 for measurement and analysis. I am finding it difficult to negotiate the AAVSO website. I have managed to get on an AAVSO mailing list for SEB observations, but I do not understand how the AAVSO works in this regard. Is there a team leader for SEBs? Can I upload light curve plots to the AAVSO as well as individual observations?

Hi Gregory,

The AAVSO has an Eclipsing Binaries Observing Section. There is a link to Observing Sections on the AAVSO home page, which you can find by scrolling down. The joint leaders of the EB Observing Section are Gerry Samolyk and Kevin Alton.

As far as I know, the AAVSO has no facility for the uploading of light curves, only observations, individually or grouped in formatted files.

On the home page scroll down to Submit and Access Data. The link will take you to several further links. One of them is Upload Photometry which provides instructions.

Are you aware of this site run by the Czech Astronomical Society?

https://var.astro.cz/en

It allows you to upload time series data and light curves for EBs. If the time series spans a minimum, it will calculate a ToM for you and add it to the O-C diagram.

Gregory,
I should have thought to mention Variable Stars South, a group of mainly amateur astronomers. One of their projects is the long term monitoring of >200 southern eclipsing binaries. The web site is easily findable.

Nice, very slick web site. I had previously registered as a user but never did much with it. I just revisited the site and uploaded one of my AAVSO data files. It calculated the time of minimum and converted to heliocentric julian date. It plotted the light curve, calculated residuals from the fitted model, everything!

Yeah, it is a nice site. I use it fairly frequently to find a good eclipse to observe that evening.
