View here: Details for Monitoring requested for 11 dwarf novae in support of HST observations in 2023-2024
Abstract: The campaign involves monitoring 11 dwarf novae cataclysmic variables to support Hubble Space Telescope observations. The main aim is to obtain ultraviolet spectroscopy of accreting white dwarfs using the Cosmic Origin Spectrograph onboard the HST to measure their effective temperatures, masses, and accretion rates.
Justification: Because of the extremely variable nature of accreting white dwarfs, monitoring is crucial to ensure observations are obtained during quiescence to prevent damage to the Cosmic Origin Spectrograph detectors.
