New Member Email Link

I tried to find a ‘member’ under community and link to their profile to send them a private email. I was able to do that in the past.

Is that functionality still available in the new web page system?

Ken

Ken,

Did you find a solution for emailing another member?

I need to get information regarding images from a AAVSONet proposal. I can find the site manager, but there does not seem to be a way to send them and email. That was possible up until a few weeks ago.

David:

  1. Post a question in your Proposal page comment box for this project.

  2. Also send an email request to aavsonet-mgmt@aavso.org

Ken

Ken, David,

I spoke with Aru and Bert earlier today track down the cause of this issue. When we deployed our new authentication system in February 2023, we disabled access to member profiles on www.aavso.org due to data synchronization issues that emerged during testing. It appears that the Member Search Tool linked to the profiles by default. Because we are replacing the software that runs www.aavso.org in the near future, we will not fix this issue. Instead, we’ll need to develop a different method to contact members via. the Member Search tool. We’ll get this on our backlog.

In the meantime, there are a few options:

  1. Our preferred method: You can try to send a message to someone using the direct message feature on the forums. Unfortunately, this will only work if the individual has visited forums.aavso.org while logged in to the website.

  2. You can try viewing the user’s profile at www.aavso.org/users/USERNAME with the username provided by the Member Search tool. If the page exists and the member has consented to being contacted, there should be a “Contact” link at the top of the page. Unfortunately, due to the aforementioned data synchronization issue, there is a good chance that the page won’t exist at all or the contact page will silently fail to send an email.

Kind regards,
Brian
