Magnitude Deblending

Does anybody have an equation to “deblend” two stellar magnitudes.

I am trying to measure a star which has a close companion, but I don’t have enough resolution to separate the two, so I’m measuring the light from both stars.

I know the magnitude of the companion and figure there is a way to calculate how to back it out of the combined magnitude that I’m measuring, but I haven’t been able to figure it out yet.

Can anybody help?

Rich:

Try Lew Cook’s Nemesis spreadsheet to ‘deblend’ them. Look in the AAVSO software page. Scroll down until you find Nemesis.
