Longtime AAVSO member and observer John O’Neill (ONJ) passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. The spouse of longtime AAVSO staff member Sara Beck, John was passionate about astronomy and a meticulous, always reliable variable star (mostly visual but also CCD/PEP) and solar observer. He and Sara shared astronomy and travel adventures around the world and spent their time between John’s home in Ireland and Sara’s in Massachusetts. With his depth of knowledge in many areas, John was always interesting and fun to be with. He will be greatly missed, and our deepest condolences go to Sara and all of John’s family and friends.
