VSX Performance Improvements

Greetings,

I spent several hours this evening watching the workload on our database server, profiling queries, and modifying the database to improve performance. The following items from VSX should now be significantly faster:

  • Name-based queries. Please note that SQL treats underscores as wildcards, so the performance of a query on “eps Aur” will be significantly faster than “eps_Aur”.
  • Executing constellation-based queries.
  • Page load speed for any record containing remark or file fields.
  • Running the special “Nova Outbursts in the last 10 years” query.

Thank you for doing this, Brian! I spent a while checking the records for red supergiants last night, and the speed improvement was very noticeable.
