VLA Tour after annual meeting?

Hi, folks,

With the annual meeting being in New Mexico this year, is there some interest in having a group trip to the Very Large Array for a tour? I was in touch with the education director, and she said if there is, she can probably arrange for some additional people to talk to the group. If we get a few positive responses, I’ll start a poll for day and time.

Logistics would have to be mostly self-organized by the attendees wishing to go, because the HQ staff are too busy organizing the core functions of the meeting. If only a few people want to go, or people can’t settle on a time, people can just sign up for general tours with non-AAVSO people also there.

I believe it is ~180 miles each way.

That’s about right. It is very close to John Briggs’ Lycaeum, so it may be that some people will want to see both the same day.

I’m absolutely interested. I might live in ABQ but I still haven’t made it down there!

I’m 101% interested!

I would be interested in both. Driving from Santa Fe the Lyceum would come first. The VLA is another 20 miles down the road.

I think 10 is the standard number VLA wants for a private tour, so if more people are interested, it would be great for them to reply.

I would like to see both the VLA and the Lyceum. Thanks for thinking of it!
