V1762 Cyg - which star is it?

Hello,

I found the following note on SIMBAD

V* V1762 Cyg misidentified with [HD 179094]

According to SIMBAD V1762s coordinates are
19 08 21.9141606356 +52 25 20.996697281

The coordinates of HD 179094 are
19 08 25.7885833200 +52 25 32.631746052

This is a difference of severeal arcseconds. The data in the International Variable Star Index refer to HD 179094. I wonder what is correct.

Regards
Hans

Hello Hans,

The note in SIMBAD doesn’t make any sense, and I wonder who reported that ID. There is no bibliography about it, and the GCVS team who named the star is keeping that ID.
The original discovery paper refers to HD 179094.

The star they call V1762 Cyg is another RS published in the ZTF catalogue of variable stars in 2020 (which is the reference they give, they also refer to the GCVS, but the GCVS doesn’t support that ID!), but it has V= 15.1 while HD 179094 has V= 5.9 (!).

So trust VSX on this one!

I will revise both to add more IDs and provide better information. The period in the V1762 Cyg is wrong and came from a revision based on a paper using Hipparcos data that tend to produce bad results.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

thank you for your reply. Unfortunately SIMBAD does not give any further information about the origin of the comment.

Thank you
