Spectra moderation timelines

Hi,
I started again with spectroscopy and would like to know how loing does it take for an upladed spectra to become visible?
My observer name is ERAA.
I also remember there is a mentor program and Sebastian Otero was taking care of me. Does this still exist?
regards Raienr

Greetings,

At present, I am the only individual moderating spectra, though Bert may occasionally step in to help cover the queue when I am traveling.

I typically review and moderate submissions on Mondays and Fridays, which are the days I have set aside for this task. Most of the time, I am able to work through the entire queue within an hour or so. However, when there are bulk uploads, the queue can grow substantially, and it may take a few days to process everything.

I’m hoping to transition AVSpec over to a community moderated model later this year. That may accelerate the process somewhat.

Thank you for your patience.

P.S. I’ve moved this thread to the Spectroscopy forum and renamed it to provide greater visibility.

Brian

Thanks.
Living in an era with AI, is it not possible to use AI to do this job?
just an idea…
Rainer

Hi Rainer,

I wish we could go down that route. Unfortunately, ML/AI still struggles to reliably classify spectral types, let alone detect subtile calibration issues. For now, this remains a manual process.

At present, the AAVSO is the only organization that actively moderates spectral data submissions. Although review takes some time, it strengthens the scientific quality of the archive and provides observers with thoughtful feedback on their work.
