Hello Everyone,
The SNEWS team is working on a new firedrill in preparation for the next galactic supernova. Below are details for Dr. Danny Milisavljevic on how to participate:
We’re ready to practice responding to a galactic supernova alert!
A SNEWS follow up fire drill that will be used to test the new alert distribution system is scheduled to happened between August 11-22. The exact date and time will remain unknown until the alert is issued.
To participate, you must sign up for the mailing list that will be our “official” means of communication moving forward.
Two options to join:
- The easiest way is to send an email to
using the following subject line, where you subsistute “FirstName” and “LastName” with your own information
subscribe snews-followup FirstName LastName
- An alternative way to join is to visit this website and follow the steps to join.
Look for the tiny “Subscribe” option in the menu on the left. You will be prompted many times to confirm and will need to respond to a confirmation email.
Please join the mailing list as soon as possible! I will send one more email as a reminder later this week. After that, I will discontinue using the current list and aim to send out further notices exlusively on the official mailing list.
Details about the fire drill will be distributed in a subsequent email.
Thank you all deeply for your support. We plan to write up our experience in a journal article and all participants will be included as coauthors.
Thanks and Clear Skies,
Dr. Bert Pablo
