I recently acquired a plethora (or is it a gaggle??) of spectroscopes with no knowledge how to get them running! I have an SBIG DSS-7 and an SBIG SGS.
The SGS I’ve attempted to collimate without success. I realy like the idea of using the guiding chip, but feel that maybe I should “cut my teeth” on the more straightforward DSS-7.
Any guidance on getting either up and running would be appreciated.
Hi Peter,
You can find the official documentation, camera drivers, and software for the SBIG Spectrograph products and ST-7 cameras here: DL Legacy SBIG files
We also have an Official Tech Support Forum which has a place for the obsolete equipment: Diffraction Support Forum
One bit of good news: Most of the legacy software and drivers run fine on Windows 11.
Some tips: Installing SBIG Legacy ST cameras on new computers
Clear skies!
Colin
P.S. I’m a long time AAVSO member, and work for Diffraction Limited, makers of current SBIG products. Diffraction acquired SBIG’s assets in 2014, after many years of a great partnership.
Thanks for reaching out! I’ll be on your forums in 10 minutes. I’m glad the cameras run on Win11. I have several ST-7’s and an ST-10 that I’ve used through Win8, but I am now on Win11.
We missed you guys at NEAF this year! AAVSO had its 1st booth in many years there. Your competitors were all there!
But thank you for supporting us with your membership. There are lots of AAVSO members using your cameras, and hopefully many more in the future!
