After teaching the Best Practices course for two years, I’ve learned a lot about the process! This upcoming course will be hybrid, with one or more zoom sessions every week. The zoom sessions will allow real-time questions and discussion of just about anything related to improving your photometry. While the formal application date is July 2, I think registration can stay open during the upcoming week, as week 1 is mostly introductory and you can catch up quickly. I hope to see many of you there!

I plan to take the course at its next offering since I have to miss too many classes because of other commitments this summer. Please offer the course again in the not-to-distant future! Best regards. Mike

Hi George,
It is organized differently, with emphasis on the zoom meetings and the ability of participants to ask questions in real-time. The class is smaller, which makes for a better group experience. There will be less course work, but I think the emphasis is cleaner. It is up to you whether a second enrollment will be helpful!

I am looking forward to your course. I will learn as much as I can because I do not own a telescope. I have no time for it. I have a busy life and need 6 + hours of sleep. Since 2014, I have been a member of Slooh.com telescopes. I observe Near-Earth Asteroids and comets and confirm newly discovered NEOs or comets from the Canary Islands, Chile, and Australia. At Slooh, we are A-Team NEO Trackers. We submit our work to the Minor Planet Center (where I used to work as an administrative assistant), and we function as amateur astronomers competing with and helping professional astronomers.
At Slooh, many knowledgeable people do photometry and submit to AAVSO. So later on, I will be using Slooh images
I am also a member of: Exoplanet Watch Overview - NASA Science
Mostly, we use MicroObservatory images, using the Exotic software to create light curves and submit them to AAVSO.
I completed Denis Conti’s two AIJ courses and tried Ken Menzies’ VPhot, did all the quizzes, but got too stressed out for the final exam. I did not take the final.

and go to the registration link for the Best Practices course. All of the exercises will use provided images, though those who have equipment can take and analyze their own. You might get back into observing, or use AAVSOnet, in the future, and the concepts should be valuable to any observer.
