After some discussion in the Community forum, I thought it was a good time to post here so people are aware of some important things.
We are receiving lots of problematic submissions by new observers and this is creating a backlog in our moderation queue.
The use of AI to perfor the analysis, without properly completing the VSX fields as specified in our supporting material available online is causing a lot of delays. No matter how good you think AI might be, the VSX guidelines should be followed, so the proper format, and only relevant information are included in the submissions.
I take the chance to post here the relevant links for people who want to submit but do not have previous experience:
Please read them before submission.
In the future version of VSX we are going to implement some changes in order to prevent faulty submissions to get through.
There will be mandatory fields and a much robust set of filters that wonât allow submissions to get through under some conditions.
We are also thinking of implementing a kind of âVSX playgroundâ where people can get trained before they can submit for the first time.
The most problematic thing I am finding is how people are using the remarks field to justify everything that they did, usually using AI, which is something not relevant to the public entry, and if the results and the interpreation of the data are wrong (which is the case most of the time), it is just a waste of time.
Remarks are only meant to show information about the star or the photometry that couldnât be accomodated in the form fields.
One of the best ways to correctly complete the submission forms is to take a look at some approved stars, so you know how a typical submission by an individual looks like.
Some examples:
My advice is that new contributors just submit one star not several when they are doing their first try, because if things are wrong, the same mistake will be made in all of the other submissions and it will take longer to explain and correct.
Thanks and best wishes,
Sebastian
