(Mostly) Automated Exoplanet Planning/Capture/Post-Processing

Hi all, I’ve improved my TransitPlanner tool (transits[dot]justinlutz[dot]com) to now rank by day and feasibility, with the ability to exclude transits with meridian flips.

You also now have the ability to export a NINA sequence json file, fire it up in NINA, press play and capture data. It has all the variables built in on where to point, sub length, total capture time, which filter, etc. It even does twilight sky flats for you at sunset prior to the transit (if you want to, you can always delete that).

After data capture, I created TransitPlanner Processor (see my github - jlutzwpi and look for transitphot), which ingests the lights and calibration files, generates calibrated files, performs plate solving, and then automatically selects the comparison stars and generates the light curve! So far my results look good compared to AstroImageJ. I’m looking forward to continuing to exercise this and improve it. I’ve captured transits with a C8 so it’s within reach with pretty modest equipment.

Attached are some light curves from both AIJ and my software from the last night of TOI-3629b.

TransitPlanner Processor - TOI-3629b
AstroImageJ - TOI-3629 b

I think the TOI-3629 b data looks pretty good so I would like to submit that through AAVSO if I could get some guidance on how to do that.

If you are interested, please try out the pipeline and let me know what you think!

I am only allowed 2 links so I saved those for the light curves.

thanks!
Justin

Hi Justin,

I will try this out. Thank you for sharing with us.

Great, let me know what you think!
