Lowspec calibration

Hello,
I’ve just finished my LowSpec build and I’m trying to sort out a good calibration workflow. Since I set up and tear down each night, I’m wondering what others do. Do you always grab an A‑type star at the start of each session, or can some of the calibration be done at home with lamps?

Thanks for any advice from those with more experience.

absolutely - whole lot of information available in the AAVSO spectroscopy section;

look for a link “Instructional Materials” for very detailed guides.

Generally - for wavelength calibration - always use a calibration light. I hang a XeNeon starter light bulb in front of my scope after every target, especially if you have a little bit of flex in your spectroscope/mount. You also shoot a reference star - like an A star - but that is mostly for instrument & airmass response correction, the Balmer lines are not always accurate enough.

Great Wolf Rayett stars are up now!

enjoy!
