I’m planning to buy my first serious telescope and have been doing quite a bit of research over the last week. There are so many options available that it’s becoming difficult to figure out which one offers the best balance of performance, ease of use, and value.
After reading reviews and browsing astronomy forums, I keep seeing these two telescopes recommended:
My main goal is to observe the Moon, planets, star clusters, and eventually some deep-sky objects. I’d like something that provides sharp views and can keep me interested in the hobby for years rather than something I’ll outgrow quickly.
For those with experience in astronomy, which of these would you choose and why? Are there other models in a similar price range that I should consider?
I’d appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks!
If there is a astronomy club in your town join it. Some clubs have “lending” telescopes that you can use and try out.
If not, ask around and see if you can find a informal group in town. Lots of those folks, particularly people that have been in the hobby for years have plenty of spare telescopes that they would be willing to lend out.

These goals require different types of telescopes for optimal views. An AI search will quickly show you the details. For example, ask what types of ‘scope are ideal for planets then ask what ‘scopes are ideal for deep sky.
