How to report 'fainter than'?

Hello, in the old report form, there was a checkbox for ‘fainter than’ observations. Where is it in the new form?

It is under WEB OBS 2.0… a link in the text at the top called “My Observations”.

please explain more detailed, so I can’t find it. I just expect to put in a ‘<’ in front of the observed magnitude. This was possible in the old WebObs

In the middle of the form, below Observation Time and above Chart ID.

The checkbox is in the form for submitting a single observation. Ìf submitting a formatted file of observations, looks like you put < before the observation.

Sorry, there is no checkbox anymore in the new submission form. It was there in the old form.

See screenshots below.

However, I can see that a check box for ‘fainter than’ observations is present in the new form only for visual observations, not for CCD, PEP or DSLR observation. In the old form it is present for all types of observations.

exactly Roy, it’s not there for CCD observations. In my case it was a crosscheck of observations in Aug. 2025 for the old SN 1999em. And, as I expected, there’s no star anymore in Aug 25 → fainter than 18.8m. Is there a way to let AAVSO correct this?

You could email headquarters at aavso@aavso.org and ask why the check box has not been made available for photometric (as opposed to visual) observations.

Related but different issue: When using VPhot to analyze/report observations variable stars not detected are just not reported. I would think a < mag feature would be good here as well!
