Get a unique light curve

I performed the absolute photometric reduction and would like to understand how to merge 2, 3, and 4 files (txt) and if it can be done with VStar - to obtain a single light curve!
Thanks

Greetings.

You can load multiple files one after another. The New Star from File… menu item opens a dialog with an “Add current?” checkbox which will add observations to the last dataset loaded in VStar. The first dataset can be loaded without that checked.

The other important consideration is the format of the file you want to load. The examples you gave have lines like this:

2460983.32795 14.841 0.006 14.937 0.006
2460983.33005 14.844 0.006 14.930 0.006
2460983.33215 14.884 0.006 14.934 0.006

which seem to be: JD, mag1, error1, mag2, error2.

The file dialog’s Source chooser defaults to “Download or Simple” format. The user manual gives more detail. If the data you want to load is just JD, mag, error then this will load fine using this data Source.

However, if you want to load the files you have shown as examples without change, you’ll need to install the Flexible Text Format plugin via Tool → Plugin Manager… and select that from the Source chooser in the file dialog.

Such files would need to be edited to add these lines at the top:

#DELIM=space
#FIELDS=time,mag,magerr

e.g.

#DELIM=space
#FIELDS=time,mag,magerr
2460983.32795 14.841 0.006 14.937 0.006
2460983.33005 14.844 0.006 14.930 0.006
2460983.33215 14.884 0.006 14.934 0.006

But this would only load JD, mag1 and error1. The following would cause JD, mag2, and error2 to load instead:

#FIELDS=time,mag,magerr

The alternative would be to edit the files to have mag1, error1 and mag2, error2 in seperate files, e.g.

2460983.32795 14.841 0.006
2460983.33005 14.844 0.006
2460983.33215 14.884 0.006

and

2460983.32795 14.937 0.006
2460983.33005 14.930 0.006
2460983.33215 14.934 0.006

Are these files created by you, e.g. via Excel, or generated from software you are using?

David

Screenshot_4|349x500

Is this file format generated by you or particular software you use?

Do you want the plot the check star along with the target (presumably the mag and error in the 2nd and 3rd columns)?

Did my last reply make sense?

David

I made absolute photometry measurements with the “Foto Dif” program but I’m trying to understand if it is possible to make a graph like in the photo where several observation/measurement evenings are combined only with targets!
