Extend file load option does not show up

Been some years sense I used V-star. Did new install on windows machine after installing Java, included all apps. If I try to load an AAVSO extended file, I get error “no data” or something to that effect. Help file says to load app from tool tab. Whne I go there it Looks like it is already loaded and the load button does not activate if I select it. I selected install all to be sure.

Help file says this option should show up as a load option under the file menu. There are a number of file loading options there, but not this one. Yes I closed and reopened v-star and even the computer.

Something simmple I am sure, but stumped.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi Bruce

Apologies for the confusion. Over time, the number of observation source plugins grew to the point where the list of File menu items could become quite long. So I decided to move selection of the observation source type to a Source selector in the New Star from File dialog by default.

This can be changed via Preferences so that the obs source plugins again appear in the File menu. Perhaps that should be the default, but it is not currently.

See this from the end of page 10 of the 2.25.0 user manual:

Note that in earlier versions of VStar, instead of observation sources being selectable in the file chooser as shown above, they appeared as File menu items. It is still possible to have observation source plug-ins appear in the File menu instead of the file chooser’s Source selector by selecting the Show all observation sources in File menu? checkbox in plug-in preferences. See the Preferences section.

Please let me know if you still have questions about this.
