Error in the web software

I just tried to submit 4 observations in the same file (time series) with a comment - “very hazy, no moon” and the submission process displayed a parsing error. When I removed the comment, the error did not occur and the submission was successful…Lane

If you are typing about a webobs submission I believe it doesn’t like the comma. Interprets it a an extra field when parsed. Remove the comma and all should be good.

Thanks Jim, being an old-time coder, I figured that was the problem - simple to avoid…Lane

Lane,

Could you send a copy of the file to HQ? It is possible that VPhot isn’t generating a properly escaped AEFF or maybe our parser isn’t properly splitting the text.

Also, is this WebObs 1.0 or WebObs 2.0 that you are using?

Brian

Brian, I didn’t keep the files, I simply deleted the comment that caused the problem and resubmitted.

The process I used went like this…

  1. I used VPhot to upload the four images (all 4 same target), chose “Time Series”, clicked the “Start Analysis” button, clicked the “continue to results page” link, clicked on the “Create AAVSO Report” link which displays a screen which contains a field to enter “notes”. I used these notes to record weather conditions. This is where I keyed in a note that included the comma.
  2. I saved the report file to my PC, returned to the images display and then chose “Apply Transform Applier”. It then displayed the screen titled “Transform Applier”
  3. I then chose the file saved in step two, above.
  4. It displayed the file contents in the top panel, including the note with the comma.
  5. When I clicked on the “Create Transformed AAVSO Report, and downloaded the TA.txt file along with the report file.
  6. I then used the AAVSO Portal “Submit Photometry” link, selected the TA.txt file and clicked “Continue”. The response was the error I reported: Unknown error while parsing: Length of names argument (15) does not match number of table columns (16)

Is this what you’re looking for? …Lane

By the way, I just repeated these steps and got the same error…Lane

Oh, and where do you want me to send the file???
