CV SIG Meeting April 13

Hi folks,

Dr. Anna Francesca Pala with the ESO will be our guest speaker for our next Cataclysmic Variables Special Interest Group meeting on Sunday, April 13 at 5PM UT (7PM Central European Summer time, 1PM US EDT, 10AM US PDT). Meeting zoom invitation details to follow.

Many of us have contributed over the last several years to Anna’s study of CV’s with the Hubble Space Telescope. Our brightness measurements in advance of the HST observations have been the required go/no decision data for HST.

Her presentation is titled

“Studying Cataclysmic Variables: the Crucial Role of Citizen Science”

From Anna:
I’ll give a brief overview of the importance of CVs and why ultraviolet observations with HST are essential. I’ll also explain how HST operates and highlight how our ongoing program wouldn’t be possible without the invaluable support of citizen scientists.

The meeting will not be recorded so please join us in person!

Me too. Among all those times I couldn’t see a GMT! :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s interesting to research the history of GMT.

Yes, that’s why the royal observatory is there. If only they had had a Polynesian navigator they wouldnt have needed all that fancy chronometer stuff!

The link to the zoom meeting is up folks. It’s on the AAVSO calendar at

Is it online anywhere? The meeting link didn’t work, it just opened a zoom window in the browser with a button that did nothing when clicked, so I missed it! Could we in future have full links please - i.e., with overt zoom room numbers and passcode?
Rt-clicking on ‘copy link’ didn’t work either. Pasting the ‘copied’ link showed zilch!
