AAVSOnet for Exoplanet observations?

Is it a reasonable thing to try to observe exoplanet transits using the facilities of AAVSOnet? I’m unsure how large the AAVSOnet scopes are in terms of aperture but, more importantly, would AAVSOnet tolerate the (occasional) very long observation time (of several hours) needed to observe a typical transit?

The AAVSOnet sites generally have the appropriate aperture, etc.to do exoplanet transit observations, however, because such observations take several hours to perform, use of AAVSOnet to conduct them has been limited. There is a possibility that we may soon have an AAVSOnet site available to do times series observations, such as for exoplanets - so stay tuned!

Might it not be feasible and acceptable to take images only over the ingress and egress phases, if we are just chasing another reading of the period? Perhaps with the addition of some span of time in the middle?

Yes, if enough pre-ingress and post-egress (at least after the predicted mid-point) is observed, then such partial transits would be helpful in refining the period. Likewise, for the case of enough pre-predicted midpoint and post egress data.
